Hi...A friend separated from his wife many years ago, and his ex wife became a member of LDS, and also raised their children in the religion. It has wrecked their family life, and he is slowly being eradicated. The children are now teenagers and completely indoctrinated into the church, have been taught to look down on everyone but LDS, and have suddenly started failing at school in the applied sciences... my friend doesn't know what to do...has been treading on thin ice but is staying quiet so as not to lose his children completely...do you guys have any advice??

many thanks

Church spends 4 billion dollars on Great & Spacious Building

The church corporate commercial arm has so far spent an estimated 4 billion dollars on a shopping centre. The quote below is from Wikipedia."

"The City Creek Center is a 20-acre (81,000 m2) shopping center development under construction near Temple Square in downtown Salt Lake City, Utah. It is an undertaking by Property Reserve, Inc. (the commercial real estate division of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) and Taubman Centers, Inc. Plans for the center call for shopping and residential elements, with foliage-lined walkways and streams covering three blocks in the heart of downtown Salt Lake. The City Creek Center is scheduled to be completed in 2012. This shopping, office and residential center will encompass nearly 20 acres (81,000 m2) of downtown Salt Lake City.[1] The city will be one of few in the nation with a vibrant, mixed-use development at its core. [2]
City Creek Center construction as seen from the corner of South Temple and West Temple Streets. Looking Southeast, 6 large cranes can be seen in this view (Dec 2008)."

All the money the church owns surely orignated from tithing, what happened to feeding the poor, clothing the naked? One of my colleagues went to help out in Haiti for a few weeks and people are still homeless and starving there. 4 billion dollars would have rebuilt there country.

I also heard the cntracts all went out to construction companies owned by GA and apostles grandsons etc. They are simply transferring the church's wealth to their own pockets. Tehre is no way of knowing if it is tithing or not as the church does not open its books to public scrutiny.

Should the church be making money or spending the Lord's money on real estate entures?

Now I have been inactive for over a year, I can see how pliable i became when I accepted the First vision. I realise now that the warm feelings I felt were the stirrings of cognitive dissonance and that I had some inbuilt predetermined genetic tendency toward religion. My ego probably liked the teachings that I could become a God eventually. It is certainly more appealing than the idea that we descended from monkeys.

It is amazing how clever the church is in asking you to constantly pray and see how you feel. You feel something in the end and interpret it as an answer from God. How do you know that the feeling means Joseph Smith saw God and Jesus?

Your faith as a mormon is built on feelings. The Apostle Paul says we should beware of our hearts which are easily fooled.

Have you thought about how you came to believe in the church?

Hi Guys and Girls

What was it for you that started you thinking that the church was false? That led to you looking for the truth, when you had been seriously advised to stay away from sources that may provide it?

For me, it was the temple. I hated it, I was frightened and I really wanted to run. The two things that stopped me - were I did not know how to get my husband's attention as he was seated so far away from me, and I also did not know where my clothes were and did not want to ruch out into the streets screaming in what I was wearing.

It was a real turning point for me and my husband. As converts to the church it seemed harmless and wholesome until that point, then it became so dark and cult like it was very scarey. We are able to laugh about it at the moment, because we share the same sense of humour - why go to Disney?

Just thought I would ask, as we have all reached the same point - what brought us all here?

Have not got time right now to say much, but would love to have contact with others who have left the Church - especially those who have had many years of involvement? I am a male aged 63 and joined when 18. Therefore, my journey in and out of Mormonism has taken all my life and I have had much experience. Until I found 'The Mormon Curtain' (after I left Mormonism) it felt very lonely - then suddenly you realize you are normal and those inside that prison; so brainwashed and conditioned... just like me!

change to the introduction of the book of mormon

I found out recently about the change to the introductory page in the book of mormon. You know the oe that states that it is the most correct book on earth and also states that the Jews/ Lamanites are the principle ancestors of the american indians.

Well DNA tests on over 12,000 american indians did not find one strand of jewish DNA.

So in 2007 the church sneakily (without announcing it) changed the paragraph to say that the lamanites were "among" the ancestors of the american indians.

Now when you consider this it is a massive downgrade. The book of mormon does not mention any other people apart from the Jaredites. They were also Jews.

This is a massive sea change. There are pictures in the church teaching programme which show joe smith telling the indians about their ancestry. Spencer W Kimble testified that all the american indians came from Lehi and Ishmael.

All of the scientific research shows the DNA of the american indians is asian. They came accross the Baring Straightsfrom russia to Canada when the sea was frozen having come accross asia through to Russia. They were Asian not Jewish.

Clearly this point is a massive concession and proves that the story of the book of mormon is pure fiction not one shred of scientific or archeological evidence supports the truth of the book.

It was a good scam back in Smith's day but the cat is out of the bag so to speak.

I hear through the grapevine that a lot of missionaries are asking to go home in the first quarter of this year. many have taught peopl who have shown them this information on the net, Sounds like the truth is setting them free after all.

Any one got a view either way. is the book of mormon true?

Former member of 25 years, former RM, free in 2001.

It has not been easy since I left, and some days are still very hard, but I chose to retain my relationship with God in Christ and walk the walk of faith here in St Helens, NW England. I run a small house church, very informal, and if you would like to join us you would be very welcome. if that doesn't appeal, no problem. If you'd just like to meet up for coffee, cake and a chat, let me know and I'll be there.

I appreciate that we each make our own decision about where we go after we leave Mormonism - for me it's continuing with Christ and supporting others who wish to do so - and firmly believe that unless you have been Mormon, you cannot possibly begin to understand the mental anguish and struggle involved in leaving it behind.

Neolady

Food for Thought

I realise now what a slick operation the church is. When I spoke to my bishop about my concerns over the 35 wives of Joseph Smith, the true version of the martydom and the lies that Joseph Smith had tangled himself up in over his affairs and secret marriages and failed proposals etc. My Bishop poor chap was lost for words. I gave him a copy of the genealogy of the marriages particularly the ones where Smith was married to the woman at the same time as the original husband.(eg Zina Huntington)

Eventually after speaking to the Stake President he came back to me. I thought that he would clear it up. I thought surely the church has made a statement about this. I was shocked when he simply told me that if I told anyone else the church would take steps to protect itself. Yes, I was threatened with excomunication. He said the Stake President would not look at the papers but had sent them to the area president. 7 months later still no word from the Area President. Out of the blue I got a call from the Bishop. At first I thought may be this is a response. After a quick sound bite of how are you he asked me, have you paid a full tithe this year. He was doing tithing settlement over the phone. When I told him they would not be getting another peny from me until they satisfactorily answered my concerns he hung up.

Over the next 25 years of my working life I would have paid a minimum of £150k in tithing maybe more if my business expands and devleopes further. You can see why they want to protect the churches interests.

My kids will probably get a decent inheritance now that I am not funding the Morg.

Has anyone else had a similar experience?

What more evidence do you need to prove that the church is not true.

It is such a shame that so many good honest people have been deceived.

Hi everyone,

Its been thirty five years since I walked out of the Mormon church, and became alienated from my family. I managed to keep some form of relationship with my mother until her death ten years ago. But for thirty years I could not bring myself to talk to my father. After my mother died I decided to meet with my father and express how I felt about his hypocrisy. We made an attempt at a relationship which grew to a kind off distant respect. However my father died last week and I feel I need to tell my story. I live in Surrey and would love to hear from anyone who has experienced or is experiencing ideological dogma!

David
